Pisanosaurus ( " Pisano lizard" ) is a genus of bird Beck dinosaur ( Ornithischia ) from the Upper Triassic of Argentina. The genus is one of the oldest representatives of the dinosaurs and is considered the oldest and most basal bird systematic pelvic dinosaurs.

Features

In Pisanosaurus is a bipedal locomotive ( bipedal ) dinosaur bird Beck. The herbivore dinosaur was about 90 centimeters to 1 meter long, about 30 inches tall and weighed estimated about 4 kilograms. Since the only known fossil is incomplete, there are estimates and the data in the literature vary accordingly.

Fossil record and systematic affiliation

Rodolfo Casamiquela described the genus with the type species in 1967. He chose the genus was named in honor of paleontologist Juan A. Pisano. It previously only an individual with parts of the skull, jaw, spine, leg and foot were found in the Ischigualasto Formation.
