Piston rod

The piston rod is a mechanical element of the piston machine. She guides the piston in the cylinder, double acting seals in machines together with the gland from the pressure chamber of the cylinder against the environment and provides the connection to the cross head. One finds the piston rod, for example, to steam engines and hydraulic cylinders.

In small internal combustion engines such as in automobiles, there are no piston rod. The piston skirt takes on the role of the crosshead, the connecting rod is connected directly to the piston.
