Piton

Pitons are used in rock climbing as a fixed point in the Standplatzbau or for belays. In principle there are always piton from a rock to be anchored in the body and an eyelet that is integrated in this body or is attached to it.

When free climbing hooks are used only for backup; aid climbing as an aid to locomotion.

With regard to their rock bolting three types are distinguished from hook:

When setting expansion and shear connectors are the appropriate standards (DIN, UIAA ) should be noted as well as the guidelines of the respective manufacturers and setting instructions, eg of German Alpine Club (DAV ), British Mountaineering Council (BMC ), etc. Only then can the required anchor strength can be achieved.
