Piz Aul

View from Faltschonhorn

The Piz Aul is a mountain west of Vals in Vals Valley with an altitude of 3'121 m. Its summit offers through its geographical dominance a good panoramic view. The south side consists of a mighty wall, to the north and east-northeast sends the Piz Aul distinctive ridges.

South of the Piz Aul is the 3'022 m high Faltschonhorn and during the trending east-northeast Breitengrats the 2'874 m high Piz Serenastga rises. Southeast of the site falls from the upper valley of Vals. Base for a celebration of the Piz Aul is the Leisalp at Vals. The easiest ascent ( normal route ) to the summit is by the northeast flank of the Sattelilücke from ( 2'763 m). More difficult is the way through the Breitengrat, which is valued by the SAC - scale hiking with BG. First time in 1909 the rockfall risk Ostwandcouloir was committed, having the difficulty ZS. The entrance to the couloir requires climbing skills in the UIAA grade IV. 1969 succeeded the first crossing of the south wall by Konrad Berni and Mark Jörger. The first winter ascent was made in 1973 by Konrad Berni and Ruedi Vieli. Other roads lead over the Südsporn the west ridge (ZS , IV), and by the west flank (WS).
