PKP class EP09

The locomotives of the series EP09 Polish State Railways ( PKP) are electric locomotives for the transport of high-speed trains.

The first factory for 160 km / h suitable locomotive PKP EP09 which was constructed under the type designation 104E, 1986, the prototype EP09 -001 was completed. The EP09 -002 was delivered in 1987. 1990 began series production (type 104Ea ) to 1994 were initially 35 EP09 built. The last series 1995-1997 (Type 104Eb; 10 locomotives) was delivered with air conditioning in the cab, this was later retrofitted to a portion of the previously delivered EP09.

The commissioning of the EP09 series led to the almost complete withdrawal of the 1973-1977 reconstructed from the series EU05 EP05 and EP08 for substantial displacement of the series on routes with lower speed. Additional needs resulted from the expansion of the Berlin- Warsaw for 160 km / h from the 1990s.

The series EP09 is still completely in the existence of the PKP. The EP09 are located in the Bahnbetriebswerke Warsaw and Krakow and are used primarily for the trains running on the upgraded for 160 km / h stretches intercity trains on the Centralna Magistrala Kolejowa Warschau-Krakau/Katowice and for the Berlin- Warszawa - Express on the section Rzepin -Warsaw. As fully fledged reserve, only the two remaining locomotives of the series EP05 available, EP08 series is allowed only up to 140 km / hr.

The EP09 were delivered in yellow- brown two-tone paint. Most were later given the white-red paint of PKP Cargo. As of 2007, single EP09 were painted in the blue color of PKP Intercity.

As the successor model series, the series were EU11 (type 114E, only for 3 kV DC ) and EU43 (type 112E; multi-system locomotive ) are provided, these were indeed ordered and built, but have not been delivered to the PKP ( EU11 ) or stayed for lack of payment by the PKP is not in stock ( EU43 ). The EP09 were therefore replaced as the recent locomotives in the stock of PKP Only with the use of the Siemens ES64U4 locomotives for PKP from 2008.

When railway accident near Szczekociny on 3 March 2012, the EP09 -035 collided with a locomotive ET22 frontal series.
