PKP class EU06

The locomotives of the series EU06 Polish State Railways ( PKP) are electric locomotives for the carriage of passenger trains and express trains.

From the early 1950s until the early 1960s procured the absence of state-owned PKP production of locomotives for speeds over 100 km / h several smaller series of foreign manufacturers in different countries. After the series EP03 ASEA (Sweden), EU04 from LEW (DDR ) and EU05 Škoda (Czechoslovakia) the EU06 series was in 1962 by British manufacturer English Electric delivered to PKP. The design is inspired by the series 83 of the BR.

The procurement of the EU06 series was terminated even in 1962 after delivery of 20 locomotives, however, began in 1965 at Pafawag the local replica in the form of slightly modified series EU07.

Because of the extensive series of identical construction with the EU07 EU06 series has survived its predecessor series by far. The phasing out of the EU06 series has already begun in 2004 were still 15 EU06 in stock. They are located in the depot Kraków and are used for high-speed and passenger trains. The phasing out of the remaining locomotives is planned.
