Geographical distribution and occurrence

The powder tensioner is used in Europe and Asia and is also found in North America. In the Alps, he rises up to 2000 meters. The species is found in mixed deciduous forests, scrub heaths and wooded blueberry surfaces.

Way of life

The moths fly in a first generation of late March to late June and early July to late August in a smaller second generation. They can be attracted at night by artificial light. The caterpillars feed on the leaves of various hardwood species, and include: hazel (Corylus avellana ), bird cherry (Prunus padus ), mountain ash (Sorbus aucuparia ) and willow ( Salix), alder ( Alnus ), birch (Betula ) and species of oak (Quercus ), as well as blueberry ( Vaccinium myrtillus). The pupae overwinter.
