Pleiotropy (drugs)

Pleiotropy ( gr pleio = full ' and trop = turn ', ' phrase ') referred to in pharmacology a presence of multiple effects in a drug. These can be side effects or effects that may lead to an off- label use.

For example, statins have a pleiotropic effect since the effect of which reduces mortality more than is suggested by the effect of lowering blood cholesterol.
