The Plose

The Plose is a mountain range in the Lüsener mountains near Brixen in South Tyrol (Italy). On it are several peaks: Telegraph ( 2504 m slm ), Pfannspitze ( 2547 m slm ) and Gabler ( 2562 m slm ). The Plose is the west by the Eisack and Rienz, in the north and east by the valley of the brook Lasankenbach Lüsner and on the south by the valley of the Afersbach ( Sade ) limited to the road over the Passo delle Erbe. This leads on to the Ladin Val Badia and Untermoi (Val Badia ).

Because of its gently rolling hills Plose is suitable for skiing and developed by numerous ski lifts. The Plosebahn leads from beneath nearby St. Andrew directly to the ski. Particularly well known is the Trametsch - piste which applies with a total length of 9 km, the longest run in South Tyrol. The Plose is also perfect for hiking with a remarkable panorama. Just south of Telegraph and west of Pfannspitze and Gabler is the Plosehütte.

According to Josef Rampold the name Plose has nothing to do with blasendem wind, but probably refers to the treeless, barren nakedness of the summit dome.

Situated on the south side of Plose place Palmschoss is not historically insignificant. So was in the 1960s and 1970s, above the village of a NATO base from which led a small cable car to the radar station on the telegraph.
