Plug Computer

A plug computer (English for plug - computer ) is a small network-enabled computer for general purposes. It is a cost - and energy-saving alternative to the traditional PC and use eg as a home server. The Plug Computer is usually housed the name accordingly in a case the size of an adapter plug.

It is suitable as a media server, backup server or file server and general server for remote access, as well as a router or gateway.

Development

The first plug computer was released in 2009 at the Consumer Electronics Show.

  • January 6, 2009 CTERA Networks brought a cloud plug out device called that online backups allowed to attached storage devices.
  • January 7, 2009 Cloud Engines Pogoplug presented, could access their data via the Internet with the user, without having turned on their PC.
  • January 8, 2009 Axentra announced its HipServ Platform for PlugTop computing.
  • In March 2009, the SheevaPlug Global Scale came with a Marvell processor on the market.
