Listen Plunge? / I (Polish Płungiany ) is a city and seat of the Rajongemeinde Plunge in Telšiai district in northwestern Lithuania. Historically, it lies in the region of Lower Lithuania.
City
The place was first mentioned in 1567. City charter was granted in 1792. 2009 was the city's culture capital of Lithuania.
Twinning
Since 1992 there has been twinned with the town of Menden (Sauerland) in Germany.
Rajongemeinde
The Rajongemeinde Plunge ( Plungės rajono savivaldybė ) includes not only the city Plunge, the town ( miesteliai ) Alsėdžiai, Kuliai, Plateliai and Samogitian Calvary, and 206 villages.
It is divided into eleven administrative districts ( seniūnijos ):
