Pluvigner

Pluvigner ( Pleuwigner in Breton ) is a commune with 7094 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region. It belongs to Arrondissement Lorient, administrative headquarters is (Chef -lieu ) of the Canton of Pluvigner and a member of the Association of Municipalities Communauté de Communes du Pays d' Auray.

Geography, location and connections

Pluvigner is located in a wooded area on the western edge of the Landes de Lanvaux. In the northern town of Forêt de Camors and the Forêt de Floranges lie; total about 17 % of the nearly 83 km ² of surface Pluvigners are forested. The area is a rising from southwest to northeast hills, whose highest point of reaching up to 144 m above sea level Le Soucho is. The town is located 11 km north of Auray 16 km south of Baud on Route Departmental D 768 Pluvigner had a railway connection to the route between Auray and Pontivy; it was decommissioned in 1951, 1981 and the station building demolished.

Neighboring municipalities are ( clockwise, starting in the southeast ) Brech, Landaul, Landévant, Camors and Brandivy.

In addition to agricultural and forestry holdings there are two major commercial Employer: Hill-Rom, a manufacturer of articles of the clinic needs (beds, hospital furniture) with several hundred employees, and Brittany Chrome.

Attractions and Events

In and around Pluvigner, especially in Talhouët, one finds prehistoric grave mounds ( tumuli ), stelae and tombs, further comprising a plurality of chapels from the 15th to the 17th century, also three castles from the 16th to the 18th century, the Châteaux of Kerlois, Keronic and Rimaison. Saint- Guigner is a city built in the 16th century church with a large wall fountain.

In summer, the community night markets and mid-August organized a Breton festival ( fest-noz ).

Sports

In the village there are clubs for rugby ( Pluvigner RC), volleyball (CO Pluvigner ) and football (AS Pluvigner and Keriolets de Pluvigner ), the first teams currently ( early 2011 ) all compete only in the lower regional leagues. The time gambling in the seventh- highest league of men Keriolets succeeded, however, penetrate in 2006 in the French Cup football to the national main round.

Pluvigner a partnership with the Irish community Cahersiveen is received.
