Podlachia

Podlaskie ( Podlasie also, poln Podlasie, lit. Palenke, white soot. Падляшша / Padljašša, Ukr Підлісся / Pidlissja, lat Podlachia ) is a historical region in eastern Poland, between the Western Bug and the Memel. The most important towns in Podlaskie today Białystok, Bielsko Biała Podlaska and Podlaski.

The area today is organized largely in the Podlaskie Voivodeship. The southern part of the historic Podlaskie ( Podlasie including Biała ) is part of the Lublin Voivodeship.

In the Kingdom of Poland - Lithuania, there was until 1795 also a Podlaskie Voivodeship.
