Podnemić

Podnemić (Cyrillic: Поднемић ) is a village in western Serbia, near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Village Name

Podnemić means in German "Under the Nemic ". The name derives from the fact that the village is at the foot of the mountain Nemic. Near the village is the hamlet Bijele Vode (white water).

Geography and population

The village lies in the Opština Ljubovija, in Okrug Mačva. The place had in the census of 2002 420 inhabitants, while there were 1991 448 inhabitants. After the last three population statistics, the population continues to fall. The population make 100% Serbian Orthodox Serbs. Podnemić consists of 142 households.

The village is situated near the banks of the Drina. Podnemić lies south of the capital Ljubovija.

Near Podnemić the hamlet Bijele Vode the Trinity Monastery is built from 2003 to 2005. The monastery as a special feature in the baptism in the Old Slavic rite.
