Poiana Brașov

Poiana Braşov ( Poiana German, Hungarian Brassópojána ) is one of the most famous mountain resorts in Romania. The place is located above the town of Braşov (Kronstadt) at the foot of the mountain Postavarul ( Schuler, 1799m ), which marks the border between Southern and Eastern Carpathians.

History

The term "insulation vulgo Awe " ( " Poiana " ) was first written in 1532-1535, published " Schaffner bills ", which were published in the " sources for the history of the city of Kronstadt ". The " Schaffner bills " recorded payments to workers who performed in the years 1534-1535 the " mule " in Poiana repair work. This work was done on the recommendation of the then King of Hungary Johann Zápoľský, at a reception for the 1534 voivode of Transylvania appointed Stephan Majlath in Kronstadt. In August 1535 this remained three days in the Poiana with family and friends at the expense of the city. The remains with the preserved accounts attest to the fact.

Winter sports area

Poiana Brasov has a long tradition as a ski resort. Here already the first skiing competition was held in Romania in 1906. 1951 took place the International University Winter Games in Poiana Brasov. In the last few years new hotels and accommodation have been built and modernized.

The place offers a good winter sports infrastructure, including Olympic downhill and cross-country trails. Two cabin ropeways and cableways and six ski lifts take you up the mountain. There are numerous hotels, and public transportation (bus / taxi) to reach the well about 15 km from the city of Braşov. It is also possible, in a northwesterly direction, approximately 11 km from the city Rasnov ( Rosenau ) to reach.

In October 2004, a NATO summit took place here.
