Polina Suslova

Apollinaria Prokofyevna Suslova (Russian: Аполлинария Прокофьевна Суслова; * 1839 in Panino in Nizhny Novgorod, † 1918 in Sevastopol ), known as Polina Suslova ( Полина Суслова ) was a Russian writer. It has gained prominence as a sister of the first Russian doctor and medical professor Nadezhda Suslova, as a lover of Fyodor Dostoevsky and finally as the wife of the philosopher Vasily Rozanov.

Life

Suslova was the daughter of a peasant serfs, who redeemed himself and worked on the estate of his former master, Count Schermetew, as an administrator. 1854 the family moved to St. Petersburg, where the sisters were teaching foreign languages ​​at a private school. As the State University of St. Petersburg made ​​their coursework in public, the young women visited there a number of lectures. Both also undertook literary attempts. Polina was very interested in social issues and was a feminist.

Your love affair with the almost 20 years older Dostoevsky probably began in winter 1862/1863. Suslova also had an affair with a Spanish student named Salvador, who promised to marry, but then left. Dostoevsky was very jealous, lamented their emotional temperament and especially their selfishness. In the spring of 1863 Suslova traveled to Paris, where Dostoevsky followed her in August. On another trip, she accompanied him, even to Baden -Baden, where he lost a lot of money at gambling this summer. 1864 died Dostoevsky wife Marija. Suslova gave Dostoevsky inspiration for many of his later fictional characters, especially Raskolnikov's sister Dunya ( Crime and Punishment ), Nastasia Philipovna and Aglaia ( The Idiot ), Lisa Drozdov ( The Demons) Achmakowa ( The youth ) and Grushenka and Katerina Ivanovna ( The Brothers Karamazov ).

In November 1880 Suslova married the 17 years younger Rozanov. The marriage was unhappy, and after a few years, the couple separated. As Rozanov wanted to marry again, but Suslova refused him a divorce. His marriage to Varvara Dmitrjewna Butjagina took place in secret.
