Polo shirt
A polo shirt is a shirt with ribbed collar and sleeves with ribbed also, elastic cuffs. It is a classic of sports clothing, but is also used as single item of clothing for workers and as casual wear use.
Development
Polo shirts came in the early 20th century in India, the subtropical climate demanded a light shirt for the game of polo. Suggested it was supposedly from a striped, round-cut, about hip-length shirt, which contributed to the Indian aristocrats Jodhpur. As the inventor of the modern polo shirt is true, however, the successful French tennis player Rene Lacoste, the "Crocodile" made his nickname the trademark and in 1933 such Shirts designed, as the tennis players were still playing in long-sleeved shirts. The original polo shirts are made of airy, woven cotton pique. The very similar average rugby shirt is tailored from the other hand, tear-resistant jersey material.
From the sports and leisure clothing for work
The sports area is no longer the main area of use for polo shirts. Because polo shirts are nowadays used as work clothes: Especially in the retail and service staff in the restaurant business or factory workers with uniform polo shirts, often with corporate inscription, dressed by their employers. Polo shirts are placed in the middle between simple T -shirts and proper Shirts: On the one hand polo shirts are considered to be significantly more serious and less free time heavy as collarless T -shirts, on the other hand they are also regarded as " practical " as such as proper shirts.
Manufacturer
Polo shirts are manufactured by almost all menswear manufacturers. This is because it originally is an exclusively "masculine" clothing.
The Ur - brand Lacoste now produces also other fashion items that go beyond the original work of Father René Lacoste. After the war, also former British tennis player Fred Perry to produce polo shirts began. In his shirts, the badge was - a laurel wreath - embroidered and not sewn as Lacoste crocodile. Very well known is the Polo by Ralph Lauren.
