Polyacanthonotus rissoanus

Polyacanthonotus is a genus of Dornrückenaale ( Notacanthidae ). The four types described have been caught in the deep sea in the southern Bering Sea, in the northern Pacific, in New Zealand, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and the North Atlantic at depths of 500-3753 meters.

Features

Polyacanthonotus species are 10 to 60 cm long. They have a long eel-like, laterally flattened body but which is supported 224-290 vertebrae. From the dorsal fin are only 26 to 41 remained solitary spines. Dorsal soft rays are not present. Your mouth is constantly under normal and large, the maxillary edentulous, premaxilla and lower jaw are dentate. The number of Branchiostegalstrahlen is 6 to 13, the gills Reuse is well developed. Cleithrum and Supracleithrum, two covering bones in the shoulder girdle, are heavily ossified.
