Polycarpus I of Byzantium

I. Polycarp († 89 in İstanbul ) was bishop of Byzantium

It was in the year 71, was elected three years after the death of his predecessor Onesimus as bishop and stayed for 18 years until his death in office.

The last eight years of his tenure were under the sign of Domitian's persecution of Christians.

Polycarp was, like his predecessors, buried in the church of Argyroupolis.
