Polycyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate

PCT

Thermoplastic

Fixed

Polycyclohexylene dimethylene terephthalate ( PCT abbreviation ) is a thermoplastic polyester which is formed by polycondensation of terephthalic acid and 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol ( CHDM ). Thus resembles the chemical structure of polyethylene terephthalate ( PET), with which it shares properties such as dimensional stability and chemical resistance. In addition, PCT is particularly temperature and hydrolysis. The melting point is 285 ° C and about 30 ° C higher than that of PET. Well-known trade names are Thermx ( Ticona ) and Eastar (Eastman ).

Application

Polycyclohexylenedimethylene at higher temperatures (briefly up to 256 ° C) dimensionally stable, making it suitable material for injection molding of thin-walled moldings. PCT is often used for electronic components, such as connectors. PCT is also processed into filaments, fibers and fabrics, which are used inter alia in the industry as a filter. For other applications, the color stability and reduced density of advantage.
