Polygon Records

Polygon Records was one of the first independent record companies in the UK.

The label was founded in 1949 by Alan A. Freeman and Leslie Clark as Polygon Record Company Ltd.. founded. Leslie wanted to bring sales in particular for the recordings of his daughter Petula Clark under their own control. Freeman and Clark opened an office in Grosvenor Place in London's Sloane Square and arranged Petulas first musical recording with Ron Goodwin and his Orchestra and the vocal combo The Stargazers in the background.

Since polygon still talking not have its own sales, the first 78- min-1 single by Petula ( You Go to My Head with the Out of a Clear Blue Sky B - side) and the second single was a cover of Teresa Brewer Music! Music! Music! included with the Blossoms on the Bough B-side, released in Australia on the Esquire label.

The first own publication of the polygon, however, was not of Petula, but by Louis Prima and his orchestra. Clark's first official polygon plate was in 1950 You Are My True Love with the B-side You're the Sweetest in the country. Overall Petuale recorded more than fifty songs for the label, including some duets with the other polygon main artist, the later disc jockey Jimmy Young.

End of 1955, Polygon Records was sold to Nixa, from which Pye Nixa Records was born. The new company was using a variety of Petula Clark's polygon recordings to release their first album Petula Clark Sings.

Petula Clark's complete polygon recordings are available on CD under the titles The Polygon Years, Volume One (1950-1952) and The Polygon Years, Volume Two ( 1952-1955 ).
