Polygyros

Polygiros (Greek Πολύγυρος ( m. sg. ) ) Is a small town in northern Greece, in Central Macedonia with 6,121 inhabitants. Polygiros is the seat of the municipality ( Dimos ) Polygiros, which was until 2010 the administrative seat of the former prefecture of Halkidiki. The village Polygiros forms with the settlements Kalives Polygyrou and Patelida the local community ( Dimotiki kinotita ) Polygiros ( 7,459 inhabitants), in the municipality ( Dimotiki enotita ) Polygiros ( 11,386 inhabitants ) in the municipality ( dimos ) Polygiros since 2011.

The village Polygiros lies approximately in the geographic center of Chalkidiki peninsula west of Cholomondas - mountain ridge in a hollow.

In addition to the facilities of the administrative headquarters are found centrally care facilities such as hospitals, courts and the military office ( equivalent to the German Kreiswehrersatzamt ). Polygiros also houses the Archaeological Museum of Halkidiki, where finds from archaeological sites throughout the Chalkidiki are issued.

Polygiros is connected by good roads with Thessaloniki ( National Road 16) and Gerakini. A side road leads over the Cholomondas solid curve rich in Taxiarhis over after Arnea. This road networks are used as part of the public transport means buses ( KTEL ). Rail connections do not exist as on the entire Halkidiki. The nearest national and international airport is the airport of Thessaloniki.
