Polyonax

  • North America

Polyonax is a known only by sparse fossil record genus of bird Beck dinosaurs ( ornithopods ) from the group of ceratopsians.

From Polyonax only fragments of horns and individual vertebrae were found. The resultant lack of data for an accurate systematic investigation are available, Polyonax nomen dubium is considered.

The fossil remains of this dinosaur were found in the U.S. state of Colorado and described in 1874 by Edward Drinker Cope. Type species and only known species is P. mortuarius. It was after Agathaumas the second Ceratopsia discovered and enabled as this not indicative of the appearance of these animals. It was not until 15 years later - after the discoveries of Triceratops - is hinted their appearance.

Polyonax is (late Maastrichtian ) dated to the Late Cretaceous to an age 68-66 million years. He is thus the same age as Triceratops, perhaps it is even the same genus.
