According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.2 km ², of which 7.7 km ² of land and 0.5 km ² ( 6.01% ) is water.

According to the census of 2000, there are 10,640 people, 3,949 households, and 2,803 families residing in the city. The population density is 1383.2 persons per km ². 93.01 % of the population are White, 1.21% African American, 0.19 % Native American, 3.03 % Asian, 0.01 % Pacific Islander, 1.57 % from other races, and 0.99% mixed race. 5.74% are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 3,949 households 33.7 % have children under 18 years. 57.8 % are married couples living together, 10.1% are single mothers, 29.0% are non-families, 23.8 % consist of single-person households and 10.8% in people older than 65, the average household size is 2, 69, the average family size is 3.24.
