Ponseti method

The clubfoot by Ponseti is an orthopedic Redressionstherapie ( bloodless correction of a deformity ), which is used to correct an idiopathic clubfoot. The treatment by Ponseti provides for a specific manual redressment with gradual correction according to anatomical considerations.

Historical

Ignacio Ponseti developed his method of treatment for the removal of idiopathic clubfoot already in the 1950s. Nevertheless, it was in the past worked in Germany mainly with Redressionsgipsverbänden and limited dorsal soft tissue relaxations, or from the 1980s with broader peritalaren soft tissue interventions. Only by the great successes that have been achieved, especially in the English-speaking world, the way to the turn of the century found more application in Germany. So already in 2005 at the Annual Meeting of the German Association for Foot and Ankle in Augsburg clear that the Ponseti concept had become an established standard treatment for idiopathic clubfoot.
