Pontifical North American College

The Pontifical North American College ( Latin: Collegium Pontificum Civitatum Foederatarum Americae Septemtrionalis, Italian: Pontifical Collegio Americano del Nord, English:. Pontifical North American College ) is a Roman Catholic College in Rome.

The college was founded in 1859 by Pope Pius IX. in the former Dominican monastery Casa Santa Maria in the historic center of Rome founded near the Trevi Fountain. 1952 by Pius XII. addition built on the Gianicolo a new college building.

The Pontifical North American College consists of a seminary and an institute for pastoral training. Attached to the college is the American pilgrim center in Rome, accommodation options including for the members of the Episcopal Conference of the United States.

Registered may only U.S. citizens; Third parties only with the special permission of the Board of Governors. The board is led by a bishop of a U.S. diocese; Edwin Frederick O'Brien currently, Archbishop of Baltimore. Present rector is Monsignor James F. Checchio, a priest of the Diocese of Camden, New Jersey.

For the academic year 2007-2008 are in the seminary about 190 students, about 70 students enrolled in the College.
