Pope John III

John III. († 574 ) was dated 17 July 561 to July 7 (according to another source 13 July), 574 bishop of Rome.

He was a Roman with surname Catelinus and came from a wealthy family. He was the son of Anastasius, who bore the title illustris.

Although John III. reigned almost thirteen years, very little is known of his pontificate. It falls in the tumultuous time of the invasion of the Lombards. Nearly all documents from his time have been destroyed.
