Pope Sixtus III

Sixtus III. ( Xystus ) (* in the 4th century or 5th century; † August 18 or 19 440) was bishop of Rome (July 31, 432-440 ). His name means: Sixtus the Sixth = (latin ) or Xystus = the Smoothed (Greek )

Sixtus is often associated with the construction of important churches in Rome in conjunction Santa Sabina on the Aventine Hill, Santa Maria Maggiore, whose dedication to Mary, the Mother of God, his recognition of the Council of Ephesus (431 ) reflection. At this council, the debate about the human and divine nature of Christ and the question of whether Mary can be considered as the mother of Jesus as a man or as a Mother of Christ as a god turned. The council gave her the Greek title " Theotokos " ( God - child-bearer, Mother of God ), and the dedication of the Great Church in Rome is an answer. Sixtus III. should have sent St. Patrick to Ireland.
