Port of Boston

The port of Boston (English Port of Boston ) is a large seaport south-east of Boston, Massachusetts in the United States. It extends to the territories of Charlestown, East Boston, South Boston and Everett. It is the largest port in the state, the oldest in the Western Hemisphere and one of the most important on the east coast of the United States. Operator is the Public Company Massachusetts Port Authority ( Massport ). The port was already used 1000 years ago by Indians and expanded by European settlers. Since then he has gained international importance for overseas trade, especially after the founding of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

2008 1.46 million metric tons of cargo were handled here.

Infrastructure

The Black Falcon Cruise Terminal (South Boston) is the arrival and departure pier for cruise ships from April to November. 2009 200.000 passengers were handled here. The Boston Fish Pier ( South Boston ) is the oldest still operating fishing port in the United States. The Conley Terminal ( South Boston ) is the container port. The Boston Car Port ( Charlestown ), the former Moran Container Terminal, is used for shipment of motor vehicles.
