Portbail

Portbail (also Port-Bail ) is a commune with 1644 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Manche in Basse-Normandie region.

The community lies on the edge of the Regional Natural Park Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin (French Parc naturel régional des Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin ) that marks the place at the mouth of Ollonde on the west coast of the Cotentin peninsula. The place is also the end point of the tourist train Train Touristique du Cotentin. The fortified Romanesque church of Notre -Dame still has its original, simple capitals. Behind the town hall is the early Christian baptistery. The octagonal font dates from the 5th century.
