Porterville is a city in the municipality Bergrivier, district, West Coast, Western Cape Province in South Africa. It is located about 140 kilometers north of Cape Town, 280 meters above sea level, at the foot of the Olifants mountains. 2011, the town had 7,057 inhabitants.

The city was founded in 1863 after Frederick John Owen divided his farm Pomona in several plots. The city was named then after the then Attorney General of the Cape Colony, William Porter. Municipal law she received in 1881. Porterville Today is known as the meeting place of the South African paragliders.
