Representation

The Doge Loredan is shown in three-quarter profile in his ceremonial costume in the style of Venetian official portraits behind a parapet. He wears the Dogenkappe, the Corno Ducale, a stiff cap in the form of a horn on a white linen cap and gown high collar of the Doge with the striking buttons, campanoni d' oro. Use the oil paints succeeded Giovanni Bellini, the silky texture of the precious damask in contrast to the gold-embroidered games depict. As in this picture preferred Giovanni Bellini in his portraits a light background, the scattered light effect and the undirected looking to the side. Characteristic of the style of painting of Giovanni Bellini and his brother Gentile is the psychological aloofness of his portraits. Giovanni Bellini painted the Doge Loredan in the then-popular style of a portrait bust. Giovanni Bellini Portrait Loredans signed with his name in Latinized form on the piece of paper on the parapet: Ioannes BELLINVS.
