Porttipahta Reservoir

The Porttipahta Reservoir ( pɔrt ː ipɑhtɑ, finn: Porttipahdan tekojärvi ) is an artificial lake in Finnish Lapland. It lies at the headwaters of the river in the municipality of Sodankylä Kitinen. Depending on water levels its area is 34-214 km ², the level is 234-245 m above sea level.

The Porttipahta Reservoir was dammed in 1970 to regulate the amount of water the Kitinen, a tributary of the Kemi, for the purposes of hydropower can. At the Dam is a hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of 35 MW and an annual electricity production of 149 GWh ( 2006). With the eastern Lokka Reservoir Porttipahta the reservoir is connected by a channel.
