Portuguese Cycling Federation

The Federação Portuguesa de Ciclismo (Portuguese Cycling Federation ) is the association for cyclists in Portugal. It was founded in 1899 and is headquartered in Lisbon.

The Portuguese Cycling Federation FPC was established on 14 December 1899 as União Portuguesa Velocipédica (EIA ); since 1944 is called the Association EIA FPC. Founding president was Bernardo Homem Machado, Conde de Caria. 1901 there was a first general meeting of delegates. The sport of cycling took to this in Portugal almost exclusively on cycle tracks instead; the first was opened in 1888 Algés, numerous others followed. The first cycling clubs were departments known football clubs like Benfica.

Today, the association is firmly seated in Lisbon in a building that was provided to him by the city. The FPC held several cycling races, including the Tour of Portugal. Since 2009, it operates the Velódromo Nacional in Sangalhos, 90 kilometers south of Porto, on several occasions took place in the web - European Championships for juniors.
