Portuguese euro coins

The Portuguese euro coins are put into circulation in Portugal Euro coins of the European currency Euro.

Circulation coins

Portuguese euro coins have a custom image for each of the three series of coins. Shown are three royal seal from the years 1134, 1142, 1144, surrounded by - the seven battles Alfonso III. symbolizing against five Moorish kings - seven castles and five coats of arms and the word PORTUGAL. All designs come Vítor Manuel Fernandes dos Santos and contain the EU twelve stars and the year of issue.

Minted coins are in the " Imprensa Nacional - Casa da Moeda " in Lisbon. The sign of mint - INCM - can be found on the coins on the first coat of arms from the right. The coins that were minted in the years 1999-2002 bear the year of issue 2002. Since 2003 minted coins bear the actual year of issue.

The starting in 2007 redesigned front of the euro coins ( new map of Europe ) was introduced in Portugal in 2008.

The edge lettering of all 2- Euro coins shows seven castles and five shields that are symbolic elements in the coat of arms of Portugal.
