Portunus was in Roman mythology the god of ports (Latin Portus " port ", originally " door ").

He was one of the oldest gods of Rome and is already in the 6th century BC. His character is the key. The Feast of Portunus, the Portunalia, was celebrated on August 17. The Mater Matuta was regarded as his mother. Portunus was equated with the Greek god Palaemon.
