Positions of the feet in ballet
The foot positions in ballet, as well as most other movements and poses standardized.
With turned legs 5 foot positions are possible. Was first published in the systematics of the 5 positions of the feet of the French ballet master Raoul Auger Feuillet. In addition, there is a sixth foot position with parallel stationary feet. Usually, the foot positions are designated by Roman numerals, to distinguish it from the arm positions described with Arabic numerals.
The foot positions shown in the pictograms represent an ideal image dar. Not all people, but not all ballet dancers are able to execute them as shown. Forced, not the individual anatomical conditions adapted foot posture can lead to chronic musculoskeletal problems.
I. position
Stand with feet together, heels touching.
II position
The feet are side by side, the foot spacing corresponds to the hip width.
III. position
Stand with feet of each other with the heel of the front foot touches the longitudinal arch of the back foot.
IV position
Stand with feet of each other, the foot spacing corresponds to a foot length.
V. Position
Stand with feet of each other, the heel of the front foot touches the Großzehballen of the back foot.
VI. position
The feet are parallel to each other. They touch.
Variations
Depending on educational or choreographic goals the foot positions are varied. Especially the Fußabstände in the second and fourth position often differ from the above.
