PostNuke

PostNuke is an open source web content management system ( WCMS ) written in PHP and licensed under the GNU General Public License ( GPL). The project is set now. The team of developers has launched Postnuke with Zikula a new project on an entirely new code base. But it is possible to import content from PostNuke sites. Support for the update is due to expire in June 2009.

PostNuke is modular. Additional features can be used by installing additional modules, such as articles, web links, downloads, FAQ, image galleries, forums etc. PostNuke features which future over a core, in addition to the application programming interface ( API), the ADOdb database abstraction (next MySQL also other database systems to be read ) and the Smarty templating -based also contains an extensive security, user and group management.

The project aims in addition to its classical field of private home or small community on professional use. The introduction of the templating system Xanthia was of great importance for the project. This content can be largely disconnected from the layout.

By descent from the original PHP -Nuke PostNuke initially has also taken its reputation of instability and safety deficiencies. To counteract this, programmers are very concerned in his own words about security and stability. Documentation and support is available both in the German-speaking community and the international support area. The new version 0.8 has been completely revised, so that the concept and the entire source code of PHP -Nuke differ. Therefore, it is published under the name Zikula in the future.

Organization

Behind PostNuke is a large international and a strong German community. In June 2004 the PostNuke Software Foundation was founded as a nonprofit organization in the U.S., modeled on the Apache Foundation. With the founding members Harry zinc, Vanessa Haakansson, Mark West, Karma Dordrak and the German PostNuke eV, the Foundation is not only for stability but also serves as a point of contact for legal questions or donations.

Some of the main German developers are also organized as PostNuke eV. The association takes care of not only the development but also to the German -language documentation and support forum. For participation in the German-speaking Community membership is of course not required - membership fees and donations are but invested in the promotion of the project and may be considered as a contribution to development.

In August 2004, the association has organized the first European PostNuke meeting in Stuttgart, where developers and users met from Germany, England, Belgium, Denmark and Bavaria and worked for two days on the future of their system. The new edition of pnMeeting for developers and users in August 2005 showed mainly the growing interest by commercial users to PostNuke. This success has been linked and thus become the pnMeeting at a fixed annual component of the PostNuke community. In 2007 it was held at the University of Osnabrück and put a focus on the new generation of upcoming version .8.
