Potassium tetrachloroplatinate (II ) is a chemical compound selected from the group of the tetrachloroplatinate.
Production and representation
Potassium tetrachloroplatinate can be obtained by reaction of potassium hexachloroplatinate (IV) with hydrazine salts such as hydrazine dihydrochloride.
Properties
Potassium tetrachloroplatinate is a red odorless solid that is slightly soluble in water. It has a tetragonal crystal structure with space group P4/mmm (a = 699 pm, c = 413 pm ). With ammonia solution to form ammine complexes, [ Pt ( NH3) 4] [ PtCl 4 ] and [ Pt (NH3 ) 4] Cl2.
Use
Potassium tetrachloroplatinate is used for producing metal -bis ( dithiolates ), which is used for example in laser and optics. It also serves the production of colloidal platinum nanoparticles for catalysis and photocatalysts.
