Pothohar Plateau

Pothohar ( Potwar also ) is a plateau in the Pakistani province of Punjab. It is located between 300 and 500 m above sea level. The river flows through the territory of the Swaan deferred small hill, which originate from the ice age.

Location

The plateau rises between the rivers Indus and Jhelum and is bordered to the north by the Hazarahügel and on the south by the salt mountains.

Nature

The area is characterized by strong erosion. The deep waters are not suitable for irrigation of higher agricultural land, so that one is dependent on rain, but only sparsely covered (~ 38-51 mm per year). In Indus near the vegetation is more abundant. On the plateau are also the richest oil fields in the country, including Khaur (1915 found ) Dhulian (1935 ) and the Tutfeld (1968).

The Potwar Plateau is one of the most populous areas of Pakistan. On the plateau are, among others, Islamabad, Jhelum, Chakwal, Rawalpindi and Attock.
