Powder River (Oregon)

The Powder River is an approximately 180 km long tributary of the Snake River in the northeast of the U.S. state of Oregon. It drains a portion of the Columbia Plateau in the east of the Blue Mountains.

The river rises in the southern Blue Mountains along the Elkhorn Ridge, about 32 km west of Baker City in Baker County. The upper course is located in the Umatilla National Forest. Its confluence with the Snake River takes place at the state's border with Idaho, above the Brownlee Dam.

Nearly 19 km of the river, from Thief Valley Dam to the bridge of the Oregon Route 203 are awarded in the category " scenic" as a National Wild and Scenic River.
