PowerJet SaM146

The PowerJet SaM146 ( Двигатель SaM146 ) is a family of jet engines, which was developed by the joint venture PowerJet. The two-shaft engine with a high bypass ratio is used in the Sukhoi Superjet 100.

The French engine manufacturer SNECMA developed the high-pressure components, the FADEC, the gear, and led by the flight tests. NPO Saturn developed the fan and the other low-pressure components, mounted the engine and makes the engine dynamometer tests. The parts production takes place at VolgAero.

Technology

The engine is designed to be particularly easy to maintain and durable. The panels are part of the engine and can be folded away, so as to allow easy access to the engine. The high-pressure turbine stage, designed the three-stage low-pressure turbine. Two of the six stages of the HD compressor are made in blisk technology. The engine has an annular combustion chamber, the nozzle is equipped with a mixer. The standard is also the thrust reverser. The current limits for volume (12 dB quieter than those for step 4 ) and emission (20 % below the next threshold values decrease) are observed. The two power levels are stored in the FADEC and are only accessed by changing a coding plug.

Development

The first run of the engine was on 9 July 2006 in Rybinsk. Meanwhile, even up to 82 kN thrust were achieved in test mode and thus exceeded the required thrust values . However prevents a contractual agreement between General Electric and Snecma, that engine is offered in the thrust range of the CFM56. The first flight of a flight test aircraft Il- 76LL took place on 6 December 2007. On 19 May 2008, the first Superjet 100 completed with these engines in Komsomolsk -on-Amur its maiden flight. The first delivery was scheduled for September 2009, but the EASA certification was delayed to June 23, 2010 (Version SaM146 1S17 ). The EASA type certification for the variant SaM146 1S18 was finally on 17 January 2012.
