PowerJet

PowerJet is a jet engine manufacturer that was founded jointly by Snecma and NPO Saturn. It consists of a French offshoot of PowerJet SA and a Russian offshoot, the Powerjet ZAO. The company is headquartered in Paris. CEO is Michel Déchelotte (* 1946). Goal is the production of the engine PowerJet SaM146 for the passenger aircraft Sukhoi RRJ. To this end, the company was founded on 21 July 2004. It is the basis of the cooperation agreement not to offer engines with a thrust of about 82.3 kN to make the CFM56 no competition.

It is supplied by the SNECMA the engine core with the high pressure part and the FADEC. NPO Saturn building the low-pressure section including fan, control and auxiliary units. The final assembly will take place at NPO Saturn. For test runs of the new engine, a test stand was built, on which all the runs can be carried out.

The LII builds a Ilyushin Il- 76 flight tests. Here one of the four D30 -KP -2 engines will be replaced by a SaM146. It should be flown two tests, one in Zhukovsky and one in Istres, where is located the flight test center of SNECMA.

The fan engine will be offered in two power levels, which differ only by the control software. First pre-production sample should be available in summer 2006.
