Powership

A power plant ship (English: Power Barge ) is a power plant that is built on floating pontoons or another raft or boat and can be moved between places of destination in order to produce in ports or coastal current.

Because of such power plants a high energy density is required, come as combustion engines especially compact built gas turbines, but also diesel engines or gas engines in question. Often a waste heat boiler of the gas turbine is connected downstream of feeding a steam turbine; the result is a floating combined cycle power plant. Are a rare steam turbines which are powered by a conventionally fired or nuclear steam generator.

To develop Between 1954 and the early 1970s tried the U.S. Army as part of the Army Nuclear Power Program floating nuclear power plants ( see picture MH -1A ). Similar efforts were and are in Russia ( → Russian floating nuclear power plant ).
