Praça dos Três Poderes

The course of the three powers (Portuguese: Praça dos Três Poderes ) is a space at the western end of the Eixo Monumental in Brasília.

Naming

The name of the place derives from the function of the surrounding buildings in the original plan from:

  • Palácio do Planalto - Palace of the President as the executive
  • Congresso Nacional - building of the National Congress ' Brazil as legislative
  • Supremo Tribunal Federal - Supreme Court building of the Brazilian Federation as judiciary

History of Architecture and Design

Even the Plano Piloto establishing the city of Brasilia saw the union of the " three forces " at a place on the west end of the east-west main axis of the city before.

The draft of the layout of the course comes from Oscar Niemeyer and Lúcio Costa, which is about 120 x 220 meter square without any planting to increase the particular spatial effect. In addition to the buildings surrounding the square is characterized by some top-notch modern sculptures:

In 1958, we began with the establishment of the surrounding buildings. In 1985 there Patria e da Liberdade Tancredo Neves started at the previously developed west side of the square with the establishment of Panteão, this was opened on September 7, 1986. Also on the west side of the square is a designed by Sérgio Bernardes flagpole, a 286 m² large flag of Brazil to the blows.
