Pram (Band)

Pram is a music group that was founded in 1990 in the Balsall-Heath-/Moseley-Region of Birmingham, England.

Originally from Yorkshire, Rosie Cuckston and Matt Eaton went to school together. Together with drummer Andy Weir drew the three in the later 1980s to Birmingham. A chance encounter between Rosie Cuckston and Sam Owen in a single evening in a local supermarket gave the starting signal for this idiosyncratic band. Under the name Hole they began in 1988 with first appearances. The only sound sources presented their eerie voices and a homemade Theremin dar. Later, multi-instrumentalist Matt Eaton came about. Keyboard and sampler player Max Simpson expanded the band in which Sam Owen plays bass and Andy Weir on drums.

With their self-produced first publication Gash she attracted the attention of Too Pure Records, a label which already had artists like Stereolab, Mouse on Mars and PJ Harvey under contract, and published there between 1993 and 1995 a number of increasingly sophisticated albums and EPs.
