Pranas KÅ«ris

Pranas Kūris ( born December 20, 1938 in Šeduva, Rajongemeinde Radviliškis ) is a Lithuanian lawyer, international lawyers, judges at the European Court, sowjetlitauischer politician, Minister of Justice and Supreme Court judge.

Life

1961 graduated Pranas Kūris the Diploma in Legal Studies at the University of Vilnius. After postgraduate study from 1963 to 1965 he received his doctorate at the University of Moscow. 1973 Habilitation Pranas Kūris in Moscow. Later he worked in the diplomatic service, Minister of Justice of Lithuania and Vilnius University Chair of Comparative and International Law, Member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences and dean of the Faculty of Law. 1992-1994 he was Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania for Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. From December 1994 to October 1998 he held the office of a judge of the Supreme Court of Lithuania and the President of that Court. From 11 May 2004 until 2013, was a judge at the European Court of Justice ( to 2004 he was a judge at the European Court of Human Rights).

He is the author of about 200 publications.

His son is Egidijus Kūris (* 1961), constitutional lawyer, judge at the European Court of Human Rights, Professor, former President of the Constitutional Court.
