Prangli

Prangli ( Wrangelsholm German, Swedish Vrångö ) is an Estonian island in the Baltic Sea, located in the Gulf of Finland.

Prangli was first mentioned in 1387 as Rango documented. The first settlers were Swedish speaking. Only in the 17th century, the island was culturally influenced by Estonians.

Prangli now belongs to the municipality of Viimsi. Currently, 80 people live permanently on the island. In the summer, the population is about 151 people. From the port Kelnase a ferry leads to Leppneeme on the mainland.

The size of the island is 6.44 km ². During the vegetation predominate, especially in the east of the island pines that offer good protection from the wind. The island is rich in boulders. The highest elevation is about 9 m above the sea level.

On Prangli is a lighthouse built in 1923, which was initially operated with gas, and is now powered by solar cells with energy.
