Pratt & Whitney R-985 Wasp Junior
The Pratt & Whitney R -985 Wasp Junior is an air cooled aircraft engine of the U.S. manufacturer Pratt & Whitney. After the first test runs in 1929 the type was used from 1930 in civil and military aircraft and later also in helicopters ( Sikorsky H -5). After delivery of 39 037 engines, the production ended in 1953.
The nine-cylinder radial engine with mechanical supercharging by means of a centrifugal compressor with a displacement of 985 cubic inches (about 16 liters ) of the smallest of the P & W " Wasp " engine family.
