Pre-Pottery Neolithic A

The Preceramic Neolithic A is the oldest section of the pre-pottery Neolithic ( abbreviated as PPNA, after engl. Pottery Neolithic A Pre- ) in the Middle East. The space defined by Kathleen Kenyon based on the stratigraphy of Jericho section referred to an Early Neolithic period between 9500-8800 BC in the Levant and in the northern part of the Fertile Crescent, in the manufacture of pottery was not yet known. There are human and animal figures in clay, vases were made, inter alia, plaster, stone and burnt lime ( vaiselles blanches, whiteware ). Plant cultivation and animal husbandry were in the early stages. Are typical round houses with terrazzo flooring. The subsequent period is called preceramic Neolithic B.

There are several regional variants distinguished as the Sultanian (Palestine), Aswadian ( region around Damascus ) and Mureybetian (Middle Euphrates ).
